What is Full Body Polishing?
Full body polishing is a body treatment that exfoliates, cleanses and hydrates the skin from neck to toe. It removes dead skin cells from the surface, which can leave the skin feeling smoother and looking brighter and more even. A typical treatment includes a body scrub, cleansing, a nourishing mask or wrap and a moisturising finish. It is a cosmetic, relaxing treatment and is popular before weddings, holidays and special events.
Who it may suit
- People with rough, dry or dull body skin
- Those wanting smoother skin before a wedding or event
- People with uneven-looking skin from sun exposure
- Anyone wanting a relaxing body treatment with no downtime
Common Causes and Types
- Build-up of dead skin cells
- Sun exposure and tanning
- Dry skin from air conditioning and hot showers
- Friction from clothing and shaving
How the treatment is done
Your skin is checked for any areas to avoid, such as cuts, rashes or recently waxed skin. A suitable exfoliating scrub is massaged over the body, followed by a warm cleanse, a hydrating mask or wrap and a moisturiser. The treatment usually takes 60 to 90 minutes. Many people have it every 3 to 4 weeks, or a few days before an event.
Downtime and recovery
- No downtime
- Skin may feel slightly warm or pink for a few hours
- Avoid waxing, shaving or self-tan straight after treatment
Risks and aftercare
Body polishing is low risk. Over-exfoliation can cause irritation, and products may cause a reaction in people with sensitive skin or allergies, so tell us beforehand. It is not suitable over sunburn, active eczema, infection or broken skin.
- Moisturise daily to keep the skin smooth
- Use sunscreen on exposed areas
- Avoid hot baths, saunas and harsh scrubs for 24 hours
- Wait 24 to 48 hours before waxing or shaving
