What is microneedling?
It is a derma roller procedure that uses small needles to prick the skin. This treatment breaks down scar tissue and stimulates the generation of new collagen and other skin tissues for smoother, firmer toned skin, improving the blood flow to the skin.
How does it work?
The needling of the skin penetrates the upper layers of the skin up to a depth of 2mm creating tiny needle wounds that stimulate collagen and elastin fibers.
What are the conditions that can be treated?
Mild to moderate scarring, fine lines, pore size, wrinkles, sagging skin and stretch marks can be reduced.
How will I look just after the treatment?
Mild redness and swelling will be seen similar to a mild sunburn Mild pinpoint bleeding and bruising in the skin can be seen Smoother, radiant skin is seen i 1 - 2 weeks.
How is it done?
Starts with cleaning the skin. Numbing the skin with an anaesthetic cream. Small electrically operated pen with tiny needles do the needling. This allows piercing and absorption of products. Vitamin C serum or Hyaluronic Acid is used after the procedure to hydrate and protect the skin.
What is the down time?
The inflammation caused is reduced within a couple of hours up to 48 hours.
How do I care for the skin after the treatment?
Use a sunblock to protect the skin. A moisturizer is used to reduce drying, scaling, redness and swelling for a few days up to 1 week.
Is it painful?
It is well tolerated once a numbing cream is applied to minimize the pain.
Are there side effects?
No major side effects except for the mild swelling and redness.
Is there anything to avoid on the skin?
Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), Retinol, Acidic or active ingredients should not be used for 2-3 days. Sun exposure is to be avoided. Use of a sunblock is recommended.
