What is Under-Eye Darkness Treatment?
Dark circles under the eyes are one of the most common reasons people visit an aesthetic clinic, but they are not all the same. Some are caused by pigmentation, some by thin skin showing the blood vessels beneath, and some by a hollow (tear trough) that casts a shadow. Under-eye darkness treatment at Ageless starts with identifying which of these is present, because the right treatment depends on the cause. Options may include skincare, gentle peels, laser, PRP, skin boosters or tear trough filler.
Who it may suit
- People with brown or grey under-eye pigmentation
- Patients whose eyes look tired or hollow even after rest
- Those with a visible groove between the lower eyelid and cheek
- People wanting a non-surgical option after medical causes have been considered
Common Causes and Types
- Pigmentation: common in South Asian skin and worsened by sun, rubbing and allergies
- Thin skin and visible blood vessels, which can look blue or purple
- Tear trough hollowing from age-related volume loss
- Lifestyle factors such as poor sleep, dehydration and eye rubbing
- Medical factors such as allergies, eczema or iron deficiency, which may need separate care
How the treatment is done
Dr. Nuwan examines the area in different lighting to separate pigmentation, vascular darkness and shadowing. Pigmentation may be treated with targeted skincare, mild peels or laser sessions. Thin, crepey skin may benefit from skin boosters or PRP. Hollows may be softened with a small amount of hyaluronic acid filler placed carefully with a cannula. Each session usually takes 20 to 45 minutes.
Downtime and recovery
- Peels and laser: mild redness or flaking for a few days
- Skin boosters or filler: swelling and possible bruising for up to 1 to 2 weeks
- Most people return to work the next day
Risks and aftercare
The under-eye area is delicate. Filler can cause swelling, lumps, a bluish tint if placed too superficially and, rarely, vascular complications. Laser and peels can cause temporary pigment changes. Results vary and some dark circles have a genetic component that can only be improved, not removed.
