What is Gold Facial?
A gold facial is a luxury facial that combines deep cleansing, gentle exfoliation, facial massage and a gold-infused mask or serum, finished with hydration. The aim is skin that looks brighter, smoother and more refreshed. Much of the visible glow comes from the cleansing, exfoliation, massage and hydration steps, and gold-containing products are used as part of a pampering experience. A gold facial is a cosmetic treatment rather than a medical one, and it is popular before weddings and special events.
Who it may suit
- People with dull or tired-looking skin
- Those wanting a relaxing glow facial before an event
- Patients with dry or dehydrated skin
- Anyone wanting a gentle facial with no downtime
Common Causes and Types
- Build-up of dead skin cells that dulls the skin
- Dehydration from sun and air conditioning
- Stress and lack of sleep
- Pollution and make-up residue
How the treatment is done
Your skin type is checked first so products can be chosen to suit you. The facial includes cleansing, exfoliation, extraction if needed, a facial massage, application of a gold-infused mask or serum, and a hydrating finish with sunscreen. A gold facial usually takes 60 to 75 minutes. For an event, it is best done 3 to 5 days beforehand.
Downtime and recovery
- No downtime for most people
- Mild redness after extraction usually fades within a few hours
- You can return to normal activities straight away
Risks and aftercare
Gold facials are low risk. Rarely, products can cause irritation or an allergic reaction, including in people with a metal allergy, so tell us about allergies. People with active acne, eczema or broken skin may be advised a different facial.
- Avoid heavy make-up for the rest of the day if possible
- Use sunscreen and a gentle moisturiser
- Avoid scrubs and strong acids for 2 to 3 days
- Drink water and keep up your home skincare
