PRP Face Treatment

Platelet-Rich Plasma. Platelets are very small cells in your blood that are involved in the clotting process. Also, platelets release growth factors that assist the human body to repair itself by stimulating cells to regenerate new tissue.

PRP therapy is a treatment that uses your own blood platelets, which are rich in growth factors, to stimulate healing and regenerate new tissue in the skin helping to improve your complexion, skin texture, skin tone, and to restore lost facial volume, resulting in slowing down and reversing the signs of aging.

The most popular uses are improving skin texture and tone, treating fine lines and wrinkles, managing under-eye darkness, plumping up under-eye grooves, eliminating acne scars and stretch marks, and controlling hair loss and promoting hair regrowth. However, the uses are not limited to these; anybody who wishes to reverse volume loss, fine lines, and textural changes of the skin is suitable for this procedure. It also appeals to anyone who is looking for a natural approach to volumizing the face and treating or reducing fine lines to look good and younger.

Common Causes andTypes
  • Natural aging causes the body to produce less collagen over time, leading to fine lines, wrinkles, and loose, sagging skin.
  • Acne and injury scars leave deep tissue damage from past breakouts or surface wounds, creating uneven depressions on the skin.
  • Sun and UV damage from chronic sun exposure accelerates cellular breakdown, causing hyperpigmentation and premature texture degradation.
  • Periorbital fatigue, caused by genetics, aging, or poor circulation, can create deep, hollow under-eye circles and thin skin around the eyelids.
Treatment Options Available
  • Topical PRP with microneedling uses a micro-needling pen to create thousands of tiny, controlled channels in the skin. The concentrated PRP serum is then applied over the top to glide into these deep layers, accelerating cellular turnover.
  • Direct PRP injections use a very fine needle to inject the plasma precisely into specific depths of the skin, acting similarly to a natural dermal filler for deeper creasing and hollows.
  • A hybrid approach combines both methods, with many practitioners performing microneedling across the entire face for texture improvement and targeted injections under the eyes to optimize results.
  • PRP combined with other cosmetic treatments.

o  PRP with microdermabrasion
exfoliates the topmost dead skin layers first, allowing the topically applied plasma to absorb much more effectively.

o  PRP with laser resurfacing (Co2)
targets deep pigmentation and sun damage with the laser, while the added PRP acts as a biological shield to drastically reduce standard laser downtime.

o  PRP with fillers or neuromodulators
allows hyaluronic acid fillers or Botox to be administered alongside PRP to instantly freeze lines or restore volume while PRP works on long-term skin
health.

Procedure and Recovery
  • Day 1 - expect significant redness, minor swelling, and skin tightness, similar to a moderate sunburn.
  • Day 2 to 3 - the intense redness fades into a mild pink hue, and any needle-point bruising peaks before starting to clear.
  • Day 4 to 7 - visible side effects generally disappear entirely, though the skin continues healing and producing collagen beneath the surface.
After-Care Procedure
  • To support healing, keep your face clean and gentle by washing only with lukewarm water and a very mild, fragrance-free cleanser.
  • Pause all active skincare ingredients like chemical exfoliants, retinoids (Retin-A), vitamin C, and alcohol-based toners for 3 to 5 days.
  • Do not apply makeup for 24 hours to prevent introducing bacteria into open micro-channels.
  • Hydrate constantly by drinking plenty of water and applying a clean moisturizer rich in hyaluronic acid or ceramides to preserve the skin barrier.
  • After the first 24 hours, apply a broad-spectrum mineral SPF 30+ sunscreen every two hours if you must step outside.
  • Avoid direct sunlight for at least 10 days to prevent severe post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen, Advil, or aspirin for at least 1 to 2 weeks, as they block the natural inflammatory response needed to trigger collagen growth.
  • Avoid heavy sweating or workouts, including intense exercise, saunas, steam rooms, and hot showers, for 48 to 72 hours to keep sweat and bacteria away from the open skin.
  • Sleep on your back with your head elevated on an extra pillow for the first few nights to encourage fluid drainage and reduce facial swelling.

Frequently asked questions

What is PRP ?

Platelet Rich Plasma involves using your own blood to create a more youthful appearance. Your blood is mechanically processed (centrifuged) by a process where the platelets are separated from the blood and then injected into wrinkles, scars and other saggy areas similar to fillers.

How does it work?

The wounds created by the injections will cause the platelets to go into healing made and begin to repair the tissue surrounding the area activating the healing process leaving a smooth skin with less wrinkles.

How long does it last?

Initially, you may need monthly treatment for the first 3 months then every 12-18 months.

Is it better than BOTOX?

PRP takes a little longer botox or fillers to show results, but the advantage it is a natural product.
